Which school board race is on your ballot
Every Barrie ballot carries exactly one school board trustee race, and which of the four it is depends on the school support recorded against your address — not on where your children go to school, and not on anything you chose on election day. If you never registered a choice, you are an English public supporter by default.
The four boards, and who may support each
School support is set by provincial statute. Any owner or tenant of residential property may be an English public supporter — and is one by default. The other three require eligibility, on application:

| Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French Catholic) | An owner or tenant who is both Roman Catholic and a French-language rights holder. |
Owners and tenants have identical rights here — every entitlement in the Act reads "owner or tenant of residential property". In practice tenants are likelier to be missing or defaulted, because tenant records reach MPAC through landlord reporting.

How to check or change it
Do not use voterlookup.ca. Older guides — including some still circulating — point there; the service was discontinued and the domain is now parked. Since January 2024, voter registration belongs to Elections Ontario, but school support still belongs to MPAC:
- Property owners change school support through MPAC's AboutMyProperty.
- Tenants use MPAC's online school support portal — the guide is linked from MPAC's School Support Designation page.
- Either can file the paper Application for Direction of School Support form with MPAC.
The timing, honestly stated
MPAC's stated deadline to have a change reflected on the Preliminary List of Electors for this election was June 1, 2026 — it has passed. A change filed with MPAC now still updates your record, but the route onto this election's Voters' List is correction: from September 1, 2026 the City's own online voter tool lets you check and update your information, and staff at a Voter Assistance Centre can fix your record on the spot during in-person voting, October 22, 23, 24 and 26. The City states no deadline of its own for school-support changes; the only stated cutoff anywhere official was MPAC's June 1.

Why it is worth two minutes
Support decides which trustee race you can vote in — nothing else. It does not change your property taxes' total, and it does not affect where your children may attend school. But Barrie trustee races are routinely short of candidates: school board seats have been filled by acclamation in election after election, and the contested races draw a handful of names, so a supporter switch is one of the few places a single ballot carries real weight.
