Barrie's ward boundaries were redrawn before this election. The City's own wording about when that takes effect is easy to misread — and reading it wrong means turning up to vote for the wrong ward.

Matching every civic address in the City's register against both ward maps: of 51,042 addresses, 11,482 (22.5%) are in a differently numbered ward than they were before. The rest, 39,560, kept their ward number.

Be careful with third-party or older maps, including some datasets published as open data: several still show the 2022 boundaries, which are the wrong map for voting.
Why it reads as a contradiction
These three sentences all appear on barrie.ca:
"The new ward boundaries will take effect with the new term of Council."
"If your ward has changed, you will vote in your new ward in the upcoming Municipal Election."
"Residents will remain represented by their existing ward councillor until the new boundaries come into effect."
Read on its own, the first sentence sounds like the old map governs this election. It does not. "Take effect with the new term of Council" is describing representation — who answers your emails between now and the swearing-in — not which ballot you receive.
So both are true at once:
- Voting, October 2026: new boundaries.
- Representation, until the new council takes office: old boundaries, and your existing councillor.
