Languages

How these languages were chosen

Each language was scored on three 2021 census questions together: the residents who learned it first, those who speak it most often at home, and those who can hold a conversation in it. The same ten come out on top whether the three counts are weighted equally, with either of the first two counted double, or as shares of each question's total; only their order changes. Hindi is among them because 2,140 people can converse in it, though 425 learned it first. Every language the census counted in Barrie is on languages spoken in Barrie.
