Taxes

I'm running for re-election to continue to be able to deliver results for the residents of Ward 5. Keeping property taxes low, paving roads, and focusing on our downtown's growth are the way we're going to keep Barrie as one of the greatest cities across Ontario.

The record shows: The 0% operating target was set by the mayor's written budget directions to staff (MDIR001-24 for 2025, MD013-25 for 2026), which under the strong-mayor rules do not require a council vote. Operations is one of the components the City states; the total increases were 4.85% (2024), 4.28% (2025) and 4.80% (2026), and police budget requests have grown +7.4% a year this term. Annexation

With Barrie’s expanded boundaries and newly annexed lands, Thomson said the city should maintain a meaningful buffer between existing neighbourhoods and new development.

How to read this table. Most council business passes on consent, with no member-by-member vote in the minutes.

The practice of recording votes by name has changed: such votes were routine through 2019, and from 2020 on usually appear only when a member asks for one. This table is every vote the minutes record by name. A member's absence from it says nothing about their position.
